Aldinga About Us

Originally established in 1977 as the Willunga Hockey Club, a change in location and name saw the Aldinga Bay Hockey Club formed in 1995. The club celebrated its 15th year of existence in 2010 and over that time has grown significantly as a club with our own identity, our own hockey field and a very strong membership base of more than 150 members which is growing each year and we have worked hard to build a sense of community wellbeing over that short history.

Being the only Hockey club within the City of Onkaparinga, which is the largest City Council in Adelaide, South Australia, the ABHC caters for both junior and senior participants and currently has 11 teams (4 senior men, 3 senior women and 4 junior teams) competing in the South Coast Hockey Association. We also offer a summer hockey competition with a more social and relaxed atmosphere. Home games provide players and spectators with excellent BBQ and canteen facilities.

Aldinga Bay Hockey Club has been very successful in achieving a number of senior and junior premierships in various grades and age levels and this success has not been limited to the local competition as there have been several Country Carnivals won in the clubs history as well.

We promote ourselves as offering active participation opportunities in a relatively low cost sport along with a family friendly, safe and supportive environment for our members. Emphasis is placed on safety during the game and every member of ABHC must act with consideration for the safety of others and relevant legislation must be observed. Our players ensure that their equipment does not constitute a danger to themselves or to others by virtue of its quality, materials or design.

We also promote elite pathways for our talented members and a number of our past and present players have participated in Regional, State and National events at both junior and senior levels.

In recognizing our place and importance in the local community, the Aldinga Bay Hockey Club actively participates in hosting events and activities in the region and supporting the community through the conduct of training clinics and development programs in schools in the area offering them an alternative to the mainstream sports that are currently promoted to local children.

The Aldinga Bay Hockey Club is committed to promoting field hockey in the southern region of Adelaide.  We offer the community an internationally recognized sport which is played at the Commonwealth and Olympic Games level for both recreation and leisure. The winter hockey season runs from mid April through to September when the finals are held whilst the summer competition starts in November.
